Focus Center Quarterly General Meeting - June 2026
The NYS Focus Center held its quarterly faculty-student meeting on June 1, featuring a series of student lightning talks. Students presented concise three-minute overviews of their research projects, followed by brief Q&A sessions, providing an opportunity to showcase recent progress, share emerging results, and receive feedback from faculty and peers.
University at Albany Nanoscale Science and Engineering Faculty Visit RPI Research Facilities
We welcomed University at Albany, Department of Nanoscale Science and Engineering faculty for a campus tour and research facility showcase in May.2026. During a walking tour, faculty visited several of the university’s advanced research facilities, including the IBM System One Quantum Computer, Mercer X Lab, the Micro and Nanofabrication Cleanroom (MNCR), the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS), and the Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Laboratory. The program highlighted RPI’s capabilities in quantum computing, microelectronics, advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, and materials characterization. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, explore potential collaborations, and strengthen connections between the two institutions in support of research, education, and workforce development in nanoscale science and engineering.
RPI Semiconductor CoLab Catalyst Seminars - May 2026
RPI Semiconductor CoLab Catalyst Seminar on Tuesday, May 19, 3:00–5:00pm, at the ZEN Building, Albany NanoTech Complex, featured Vidhya Chakrapani (RPI) and Irina Spiry (NY Creates) with their talks around bridging lab discoveries to sustainable semiconductor manufacturing solutions.

CMDIS Annual Research Symposium 2026
The 8th Center for Materials, Devices and Integrated Systems (CMDIS) Annual Research Symposium was held on February 6, 2026, at the Heffner Alumni House, bringing together more than 100 students, faculty, researchers, and industry partners. The symposium showcased cutting-edge research across a wide range of disciplines, including microelectronics, advanced materials, energy and sustainability, biomaterials, robotics, advanced manufacturing, and computational modeling. Participants shared their work through 20 oral presentations, 27 poster presentations, and 4 Art-in-Science exhibits, highlighting the breadth and impact of research conducted within the CMDIS community. The event also recognized outstanding student achievements through presentation awards and travel grants, while fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange among researchers.
RPI Semiconductor CoLab Catalyst Seminars - January 2026
The RPI Semiconductor CoLab Catalyst Seminar Series kicked off Tuesday, January 20th, 3:00–5:00 PM, in person at the ZEN Building, Albany NanoTech Complex. The inaugural seminar featured Ravishankar Sundararaman (RPI) and Tim Philicelli (IBM) presenting on topological metals.
